How to Make Meen Gassi

Prepare Meen Gassi

  • Step 1
    Individually roast all the spices for the paste with coconut oil until fragrant and set aside.
  • Step 2
    Put the spices into a mixer jar along with the shallots, garlic, tamarind, and coconut and grind to a fine paste, adding water only as required.
  • Step 3
    In a saucepan, heat coconut oil and sauté the sliced onion until they turn pink.
  • Step 4
    Reduce the heat to low, add the paste, and sauté for 2 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Add 2 cups of warm water and mix. Place the fish pieces on top and cover with a lid (don't mix).
  • Step 6
    Allow it to cook for 15 minutes, then gently stir the fish as needed.
  • Step 7
    Stir in the Maggi® Coconut Milk and continue cooking until the fish is done. Allow the curry to simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Step 8
    Adjust the seasoning with salt & tamarind.
  • Step 9
    Turn off the heat and top it with the raw ginger juliennes, garlic slices, a chilli halves, and 2 tsp coconut oil.
  • Step 10
    Cover and let sit for 15 minutes before serving.
