Mutton Stew

This is a mild gravy / curry flavored with a lot of ginger and coconut milk. Chunks of mutton simmered in delicate southern flavors of coconut milk. The use of coconut, onion and tomato brings out a different flavour altogether in the gravy.

How to Make Mutton Stew

Prepare Mutton Stew

  • Step 1
Clean, wash, & drain the mutton pieces. Marinate the mutton with turmeric powder, lime juice, and salt. Leave it aside for 30 mins.
  • Step 2
Transfer it into a pressure cooker and add 4 cup water. Cook on high flame for about 2-3 whistles. Simmer for another 10 minutes and turn off the heat. Mutton should be 80% cooked. Remove from heat and let the pressure subside on its own.
  • Step 3
Heat ghee in a large pan. Toss in the cardamon pods, cinnamon stick, & cloves.
  • Step 4
Add curry leaves, then stir for a minute.
  • Step 5
Add the sliced onions and green chilies and sauté until they turn translucent. Add ginger, garlic, and sauté for few minutes.
  • Step 6
Add the potatoes and shallow fry till golden from outside.
  • Step 7
Add cumin and pepper powder. Followed by cooked mutton pieces and Maggi® Coconut Milk thin. Mix well and cook on medium flame until the mutton & potato are cooked.
  • Step 8
Reduce the heat to low, add the Maggi® Coconut Milk thick and let it simmer for 5-10 mins. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped coriander. Serve hot with rice or appam.
